The question almost always sounds the same: I already go for massage, why would I need an osteopath. Massage does bring relief, but it often fades quickly — and the search starts again
The practice explains the difference like this. Massage works with muscle: it kneads, relaxes, improves blood flow in one area. An osteopath looks wider — how the spine, the pelvis and the internal organs connect, and how the body compensates for old tension. They work with the mobility of tissue across the whole body, not only where it hurts
Hence the different expectations. Someone who wants tired muscles released goes for massage. Someone tired of the same thing coming back in a day or two comes to get at the cause. One does not rule out the other
Pain with a clear medical cause is still managed by a doctor. Osteopathy here is about the body and its mobility, not a replacement for proper investigation
