Half of Almaty's salons fit into thirty square kilometers

In Almaty, 26 salons and studios are registered at one address, building 50 block A, all in one building. The beauty and health city in Kazakhstan is built exactly like this: half of Almaty's 7,921 salons, studios and clinics fit into just 118 squares on the map, about 30 square kilometers, one eleventh of all occupied cells. We took the coordinates of 26,527 businesses in Kazakhstan and split each city into 500-meter squares

How densely are salons located across cities?

The picture repeats in cities of any size: from a tenth to a fifth of the occupied squares hold half of everything. In Semey, half of the businesses fit into nine squares, a little over two square kilometers

Where are businesses densest?

Look closely at the second rows: 26 businesses at one address in Almaty, 66 on one street in Astana. These are shopping centers and residential complexes where the rooms stand door to door

What this gives a client

If you live near such a street, your choice is huge, and it is worth using: the neighboring practitioner is often free when yours is busy. If you do not live nearby, you have almost nothing to compare, and half the city is out of reach without a trip through the center

What this gives an owner

In a dense square you are lost among a hundred neighbors, and a person comes through an acquaintance or through the schedule they found first. In a sparse square you may be the only one within a kilometer, and nobody knows it, because nobody thinks of searching by map

How we counted

The source is the open 2GIS directory, a snapshot as of August 24, 2026. We took 194 beauty and health categories and merged the rows of one firm by its number. Coordinates exist for 26,527 of 26,636 businesses

We split the city into 500-meter squares: the latitude step is 0.0045 degrees, the longitude step is recalculated through the cosine of the city's latitude, otherwise at the latitude of Kazakhstan a square would come out as a rectangle one and a half times wider. Squares with at least one business counted as occupied. Cities with fewer than 300 businesses did not make it into the table. Streets in dense squares were taken from the businesses' own addresses, with the building number dropped

The numbers in this article are calculated from our database of Kazakhstan's open directories, measured on August 28, 2026. We count them ourselves and do not take them from other people's reports
