25% of salons and clinics in Kazakhstan list a ramp

A person in a wheelchair calls a salon just to ask one question: is the entrance accessible? The listing itself usually says nothing. A ramp or accessible entrance is marked at 12,863 beauty and health businesses out of 51,004 active ones. The other three quarters say nothing about it at all

One caveat first, without it the number lies

This is self-reported data. An empty field means only one thing: nobody checked the box. It says nothing about the entrance itself. Some salons with a flat entrance just skipped the checkbox. Some checked it after calling two steps and a plank a ramp

So the honest way to put it: a person in a wheelchair can confirm accessibility in advance at only one business in four. For the rest, they have to call ahead or show up and hope

By city

Astana leads by a clear margin. It's a newer city, its buildings went up later, and entrance requirements were already in place by then

Which business types list a ramp more often?

Dental clinics lead by almost double the next group. Medical offices go through inspections that check the entrance, so they fill out their listings more carefully. Bathhouses and saunas sit last, by a wide margin

What to do if you use a wheelchair

1. Ask about the threshold height and the door width. "We have a ramp" sometimes means a board propped at 40 degrees
2. Ask for a photo of the entrance. It costs the front desk one minute and saves you a wasted trip
3. Ask which floor the office is on and whether there's an elevator. A ground floor with a ramp and an office on the third floor with no elevator show up together more often than you'd think

What an owner should do

Filling in this field in the directory costs zero tenge and five minutes. If your entrance is flat, mark it. A quarter of businesses with an accessible entrance get found by everyone searching for that feature, and the rest simply don't exist for that person

If there's no ramp, an honest line — "two steps, no ramp" — still helps. The person won't make a wasted trip, and they won't remember you badly
