Your back hurts, and the first thing you type is "massage near me", although what you may need is a doctor with a diploma. Kazakhstan has 4,990 active massage therapists. There are noticeably fewer manual therapists, and they are different specialists with different training. See the wrong one and you lose money, and sometimes time that mattered

How do massage and manual therapy differ?

The main difference is simple. A massage therapist works with what you feel as "knotted up". A manual therapist works with the joint, and has to be a doctor

When should you see a doctor first?

See a doctor first if you have even one of these:

The pain spreads into a leg or arm, or your fingers go numb
The pain started after a fall or a blow
You have a fever together with back pain
The pain wakes you at night and does not depend on your position
You are over 50 and the back pain appeared for the first time

How do you choose a massage therapist?

Stars will show you nothing. We looked at 4,332 massage therapists with a rating: the median is 4.90, and that number cannot tell anyone apart. But the median number of reviews is only 33, and the spread between therapists is huge, so look at the review count

In Shymkent, half of the therapists have fewer than sixteen reviews. That does not mean they are worse: the market there is younger, and people write reviews less often. It does mean you should choose more carefully and ask about education directly

What will you do in the first session
Do I need to bring an X-ray or a doctor's report

A therapist who asks about your illnesses and medications before starting usually works more carefully
