What the directory lists a price for, and what it never does

The directory lists a price for exactly four things: a men's haircut, a women's haircut, an hour at the bathhouse, and a gym membership. Nobody lists a price for massage, skin care, manicures, or eyebrows. We looked at 40,846 beauty and health businesses and found only seven kinds of prices

What do businesses list a price for?

After that the list breaks off: food at a venue gets 69 entries, a car wash gets 21. The directory has no other price lines at all

What never gets a price?

We checked which price lines show up at businesses in four popular categories. None of them have a price of their own

Here's how to read that: a salon that does both haircuts and manicures lists the price of the haircut, and the manicure price stays unlisted. So the claim "20% of nail studios list a price" would be false. What's listed is the price of a neighboring service

The spread between cities is twofold: Taraz and Turkestan sit at 2,000, Astana at 5,000

Bathhouse hour, by city

Here the link to city size gets weaker. In Pavlodar an hour costs more than in Almaty, in Kokshetau it costs a third as much. Our data doesn't show why: a bathhouse hour also depends on the size of the steam room, whether there's a pool, a rest area, and the directory reduces all that to one line

What to do if there's no price

1. Ask the price before you book. Massage, skin care, and manicures never publish a price anywhere, and the gap between two salons next door to each other can be several times over
2. Ask what's included. "Haircut from 3,000" usually means no wash, no styling
3. Ask about a bathhouse hour together with capacity. A price per hour can mean per person or for the whole steam room
4. Count a gym membership by the year. The monthly median is 17,000, the yearly one is 170,000 — that's ten months' worth of price for twelve months of use

What to do if you own a business

If you don't list a price, the customer calls a competitor who did. Barbershops list a price at 86% of businesses, the fullest price field of any category we counted. Massage has none

Where the numbers come from

The open 2GIS directory, counted in August 2026. Active businesses in our catalog's categories, other industries filtered out. Prices were pulled by the automatic price-line tag, not by searching for a currency sign: the data spells it "tng.", and a search for "₸" or "tenge" finds nothing. The median is the midpoint of the list: half the businesses listed less, half listed more. Cities shown are those where at least forty businesses listed a price
