The shopping center project was finished quickly, but during approval a gap turned up: there was no seismic calculation. It had been treated as a formality, which delayed the recalculation by a week

How it usually goes

Daniyar is building a shopping center on a ten-sotka plot. The project was done for him quickly and cheaply, the budget worked out, and the contractor was ready to start in spring

The question of seismic design came up during approval. Daniyar thought it was just a formality and a signature from the structural engineer. It turned out there was no calculation at all: the project had sections drawn 'the way it's usually done,' with no numbers behind them

The recalculation took a week. The column sections grew, the reinforcement changed, and the budget went up. Daniyar says it would have been cheaper to calculate it from the start — but at the time he didn't know it was a separate piece of work

How it works

The calculation is done in LIRA SAPR software, with part of the work done by hand — when the case is non-standard or the machine result needs checking. They look at where the loads occur, whether the element sections are sufficient, and how the building will behave during a tremor

The result isn't a one-page conclusion. The sections, reinforcement, and sometimes the frame layout itself change, so the calculation becomes part of the project and goes along with it

Bring what you already have: a sketch or finished project, plot data, number of floors, and the building's purpose. If someone else did the project, bring it in full — it can't be checked sheet by sheet

Yes. The whole project is reviewed: the calculation may require changing the sections and reinforcement, in which case some sheets will need to be redone
